Letter from the ED – December 20226 Dec 2022
I want to take this time to thank you for all you have done this year for the IGDA.
Whether you’re a member who’s just getting started with us, or a community leader who’s been a staple of the IGDA community for years–whatever role you’ve played this year, thank you for making the IGDA experience what it has been.
I’m excited to close out the year with some high notes. We recently finished our PathfindinGS event that featured and highlighted voices across the global south. Developers spoke on topics such as regional folklore in game development and their experiences in the development process. Some of my favorite sessions featured the role of community and how it empowered game developers to come together. All in all, it was a great event, and you can watch recaps and sessions on our YouTube channel later this month.
In other news, the Global Game Jam is coming up very soon, and registrations just opened–so please take a look and be sure to register!
Lastly, we are hosting a membership drive this month to support developers with their 2023 career goals. Currently, we’re seeking small to large sponsorships to help us gift IGDA memberships to individuals who may be experiencing economic hardship or who reside in regions where it’s difficult to execute the purchase of a membership. We hope to have your support in empowering developers with the benefits of IGDA membership!
I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your December. I hope you remain safe and healthy. And I look forward to seeing you in the new year.
Wishing you all the best,
Dr. Jakin Vela
Executive Director, IGDA
