What’s On This Month

  • The full schedule and showcase list for the Game Devs of Color Expo is now available! Starting on September 15th, get your tickets here and don’t miss the 4-day conference with showcases, a virtual party, grant ceremony, job listings and more!

  • Global Game Jam is back! Jam week will be returning on January 30th after an entire week of content hosted on Twitch!

News and updates from the mothership.

  • GameSoundCon the game music, sound design and virtual reality audio conference normally held annually in Los Angeles, is both live and online for 2022. IGDA members get 10% off with the code found here.
  • Get ready for Global Games Pitch — Mobile Games in November! It’s an international online pitching event where you’ll have a chance to get your game noticed by publishers and investors from all over the world. Tickets are already available and IGDA members save 30% by using the code here.
  • The IGDA Game Credits SIG has released an article about how game crediting is still an issue within the industry, and how they’re working hard to create practical solutions and guidelines. Read the article here

Wylde Flowers Launch Week Livestreams – To celebrate the Steam and Nintendo Switch launches of Wylde Flowers, Studio Drydock is having two very special developer livestreams!

 

Sunday, September 11th

Nidhogg 2 Fundraiser Tournament at Wonderville – Nidhogg 2, the 1v1 indie arcade hit by Messhof – is being brought to the arcade courtesy of DSM Arcade! Wonderville will host a fundraiser tournament to help raise money to buy this custom cabinet!

 

Tuesday, September 13th

Thursday, September 15th

The Game Devs of Color Expo – GDoCE is an annual event that uplifts and amplifies work by creators of color in the games industry through networking, panels and interviews about game development starring awesome creators of color.

Monthly Thursday Hacker Hours Hosted by Zack Wheeler – Free office hours for coding help for any programming language, all levels of experience.

 

Wednesday, September 21st

Building and Using Virtual Reality in Education (VR in Education) – Connect with educators, developers and others in the space to discuss effective ways of developing and implementing VR in educational spaces.

 

Friday, September 23rd

Voluntary Attempts to Overcome Necessary Obstacles Opening Reception – Voluntary Attempts to Overcome Necessary Obstacles is a games exhibition at the The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Project Space, on view September 23rd to October 29th!

 

Sunday, September 25th

Animation Nights New York presents: Unknown Elements – Join ANNY for the monthly mixer in their web-based VR space or visit the Virtual Reality Mixer Space after your Film Block. The space will be open throughout and no headset is required!

  • The G4C Student Challenge is back for the 2022-2023 school year! Applications are currently being accepted from educators nationwide. Educators must teach 5th – 12th grade in the U.S. and MUST be teaching in a public school. No experience is required, and all subject areas are welcome.   • Games for Change is looking for more teachers to participate in the Game Exchange Program! The ideal educator will be passionate about international collaboration and working with multi-lingual students. Learn more and apply here. [Deadline October 7th, 2022]
  • Games for Change is partnering with Unity on a series of workshops to empower educators to build the next generation of lifelong creators in real-time 3D development. Middle and high school educators will come to learn best practices for teaching and implementing Unity in their classrooms, and receive hands-on training from experts. Funding/Programs/Contests

  • The Diverse Voices, New Stories Mobile Challenge hosted by Games for Change is inviting developers to submit completed or nearly completed Android mobile games that have not yet been published on Android app stores. Games will be reviewed by panels of expert judges, and one team will receive $20,000 in cash and advertising funds. More info and application here [Deadline: Nov 2nd]
