What’s On This Month

  • Join Wonderville and one of our former presentation speakers, Chris Mahon, for the Black Heaven Dating Sim Launch Party! Play a demo of the game, listen to the amazing soundtrack, and join a fanart contest for the characters for a chance to win prizes!

  • Getting You Game Funded: A Conversation with Investors & Insiders is a panel exploring paths and strategies to get your game funded! Moderated by Krysti Pryde, Head of Community at Playcrafting.

  • 1UpState is a new Developer Expo coming to Albany on October 21st!

  • GameSoundCon 2023 is hybrid! Online access gives you real-time access to GameSoundCon sessions, live text chat and more. Both in-person and online attendees can watch sessions they missed for up to 3 months after GameSoundCon. IGDA members can save 10% by using the discount code found here.

  • IGDA Pathfindings 2023 Registration is now open! Pathfindings is a free multi-day virtual conference from 14-17 November 2023. The goal is to showcase the amazing work by developers across the Global South. The event will include:

    • Insights from developers across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and more.

    • 20+ speakers across 18+ sessions + 9 roundtable discussions

    • Networking and meeting opportunities on the conference platform (Discord)

  • The IGDA Game Showcase highlights upcoming projects from IGDA members and partners. These projects are promoted within the IGDA Insider as well as on the IGDA website to help them reach thousands of game developers. Visit here to submit yours!

Making Waves

  • Our friends at GUMBO recently made the trip overseas to engage with the Japanese indie games scene! Catch the recap from the team here

  • Wonderville Projects is a new Brooklyn-based nonprofit focused on fostering a community of independent game developers and creative technologists

  • Wonderville is now accepting submissions for the Wondercab arcade cabinet for the Winter 2023 residency period! Submit your game here!

  • The Interactive Fiction Competition, an annual celebration of new, text-driven digital games and stories from independent creators has begun! Anyone can be a judge: Browse and play this year’s entries, and then rate them for at least five games by November 15!

  • Game Dev Dispatch Presented by the Game Devs of Color Expo is a downloadable zine of advice, hard truths, and encouragement for aspiring game devs ready to dive into the industry.

Crowdfund

  • Breakthrough! A Language Learning Visual Novel is a mobile game where players can learn languages through storytelling, expanding their comprehension and vocabulary while building relationships with the characters through speed reading and real-life in-context vocabulary building.

Launched

  • Saltsea Chronicles by Die Gute Fabrik is a story-driven adventure game where you guide a crew across islands of a post-flood world known as ‘Saltsea’.

  • Black Heaven: A Necromatic Dating Sim by Occult Triange Lab is a dark fantasy/horror VN where you collect the souls of your former classmates!

  • Increment by Mark Pil is an experimental, incremental, experiential, industrial adventure. Push buttons, pull levers, and operate weird machines through trippy VR spaces on a journey to make numbers get bigger.

Ongoing Initiatives

  • Applications to join GUMBO are open! GUMBO is a non-profit collective of indie game creators located in Dumbo, Brooklyn formed to inspire and motivate each other, stay current in the indie game makers community, and expand an already amazing skill-sharing network.

  • In support of Wonderville, consider becoming a member of Death By Audio Arcade to earn discounts on event tickets, help the team raise funds to build new arcade cabinets and make other cool things happen with local game devs!

  • ANNY Exchange is a Talent Connect Initiative for Animation Nights New York. Want to participate and be added to the database of Animation Talent from all around the world? More info here

  • Animation Nights New York (ANNY) is always accepting submissions for Animated Short Films, AR Animation Experiences, VR animation Experiences, and Interactive Media (including Video Games). More info here

  • Coexist Gaming is a subscription-based gaming lifestyle company that provides an inclusive ecosystem for community, culture, connection and opportunity. Including a gaming lounge, optimized networking experiences and accessible resources for Devs, find out more and become a member here!

Unity NYC: Rhythm & Boos – Join Unity NYC for a special event at the Lower Case in NY that will feature a presentation on how to make a successful rhythm-focused game.

 

Tuesday October 17th

Action Design Network NYC: Behavior Change & Sustainability with Amer Jandali – Continue the theme of Climate Week by attending this talk about behavior change, drawdown, and sustainability.

Worlds Greatest Gamer at Wonderville – Hosted by “The Boss Monster” Noah Waterman, the World’s Greatest Gamer is a chance for you to test your video gaming prowess in a tournament where every round is a different game.

Animation Nights New York In-Person at the Gutter Spare Room! – A monthly screening of the best animated short films, VR animation experiences and interactive games
