  • Tickets are now available for the Game Devs of Color Expo! Returning online September 27-30th!

  • Play NYC is back live and in-person at the Metropolitan Pavilion this August! Exhibitors, Media and Attendees are officially open to register!

  • This year’s Games for Change Festival will be bigger and better than ever, including newly expanded programming like the first-of-its-kind Games & SDG Summit at the United Nations, the flagship Games for Change Festival, the cutting-edge XR for Change Summit, and the inaugural Next Gen Fest for youth!

Making Waves

  • In April, IGDA San Diego hosted the Intro to Games UX virtual talk with Helen Cheng. You can watch the recording on the IGDA San Diego YouTube Channel here!

  • With almost 340 submissions, the nominees have been announced for the highly anticipated 2023 Games for Change Awards! Check out the full lineup here

  • The NYU Game Center Twitch Showcase featured a selection of 12 capstone and thesis projects from graduating Game Center students. The live stream has been archived on the Game Center YouTube channel!

  • Talks from the 2022 Game Devs of Color Expo are continuing to roll out! Check out the GDoCExpo Youtube channel each week to catch up on all of the most recent talks.

  • Super Space Club by GrahamOfLegend is a lo-fi arcade space shooter to chill to. Defend a vibrant galaxy as a club of misfit heroes and battle endless waves of spacecrafts to the tune of atmospheric beats.

Ongoing Initiatives

  • Applications to join GUMBO are open! GUMBO is a non-profit collective of indie game creators located in Dumbo, Brooklyn formed to inspire and motivate each other, stay current in the indie game makers community, and expand an already amazing skill-sharing network.

  • In support of Wonderville, consider becoming a member of Death By Audio Arcade to earn discounts on event tickets, help the team raise funds to build new arcade cabinets and make other cool things happen with local game devs!

  • ANNY Exchange is a Talent Connect Initiative for Animation Nights New York. Want to participate and be added to the database of Animation Talent from all around the world? More info here

  • Animation Nights New York (ANNY) is always accepting submissions for Animated Short Films, AR Animation Experiences, VR animation Experiences, and Interactive Media (including Video Games). More info here

Girls Make Games Design Workshop – Designed for girls and nonbinary students between the ages of 11 and 14, this hour-and-a-half workshop will give young people the opportunity to learn Unreal Engine

Moss Party’s Summer Share & Tell – Moss Party’s Summer Share & Tell is a chill, low key event for LGBTQIA+ game developers and allies to display their finished games or games-in-progress and meet to network and hang out in a mobility-accessible, COVID-safe, and alcohol-free environment.

Tuesday, June 6th

Molar Mayhem Launch Party at Wonderville – Celebrate Molar Mayhem’s 3 month residency in the Wondercab! Molar Mayhem is a fast-paced, high score-based game where you have to survive for as long as possible without being crushed by jaws.

Wednesday, June 7th

NYC Indie Games Social – The NYC Indie Games social is a monthly gathering for indie game devs of all stripes to mix and mingle in a casual, relaxed setting.

 

Friday, June 9th

Tribeca Games and Immersive Experience at the 2023 Tribeca Festival – A week-long showcase celebrating the emergence of new forms of entertainment accompanied by a host of industry talks and special games events featuring Alan Wake 2, Hideo Kojima and more.

 

Saturday, June 10th

2023 NYCDOE Battle of the Boroughs Minecraft Education Challenge – Partnering with Minecraft Education, students will compete to create the most inclusive future-ready city spaces including the junior and senior championships as well as notable speakers and gamers, a vendor zone, college and career information, a DJ, and prizes

Wonderville Monthly 2 Hour Game Jam Club – Each month, gather to make short games using simple to use game engines. The second month will feature Web Games with Bitsy Game Maker based on a random suggestion from Wikipedia.

 

Tuesday, June 13th

NYVR June Meetup – Featuring speakers from various local initiatives in VR, AR & UX!

Emoti-Con NYC Youth Digital Media & Technology Challenge – The event is a showcase of student project presentations, keynote addresses, and provides authentic networking conversations that foster real career connections. Hosted in partnership with Microsoft and HIVE New York.

Monthly Thursdays with Hacker Hours – Free office hours for coding help—any programming language, all levels of experience!

 

Sunday, June 18th

Saison Zero at Wonderville – looking to jump into the wide world of TTRPGs like D&D, but maybe a little less crunchy? Come on down to Saison Zero, this month will feature open tables for Brindle Bay and a few other surprises.

 

Monday, June 19th

UnityNYC at Unity’s offices… NYC! – Join Unity NYC at the Unity Technologies Hub in Flatiron for an in-depth look at creating the World’s First LGBTQ+ VR Museum with Senior XR Specialist Antonia Forster

Brooklyn Alt.ctrl Showcase at Wonderville – ONE NIGHT ONLY: put down the game pads, step away from the joysticks, and go hands on with a series of strange new games and unique controllers made by designers in and around Brooklyn.

Action Design NYC Hybrid Meetup – Featuring How to blend art and science in UX design, with Tucker Margulies from Coalesce

Building and Using Virtual Reality in Education (VR in Education) – Connect with educators, developers and others in the space to discuss effective ways of developing and implementing VR in educational spaces.

Video Games as Video Art at Wonderville – Murder by Contract Screenings presents a selection of video art (or something like it!) made with video games or game-like programs.
