Chapter Spotlight: IGDA Finland

22 Sep 2019

IGDA Finland is the local Finnish chapter of IGDA that is committed to advancing the careers and enhancing the lives of game developers based in Finland. They are also working to further develop the international recognition of the Finnish game developers community.

Their hard work is shown in their multiple conferences and countless Chapter events, all which help engage their active and tight-knit community. Due to these efforts, IGDA Finland has been recognized as one of the most vibrant and fastest growing chapters and were awarded the IGDA MVP Award in 2007.

IGDA Finland works to uplift their gaming community and to create events and opportunities for everyone to enjoy by empowering inclusiveness and diversity. In 2018, they piloted IGDA Future concept, focused on uplifting youth and the next generation of developers. This initiative has been supported by Finnish government and local municipalities, and it is still developing and improving.

Additionally, when they noticed there are no dedicated games leadership conferences in Europe, they put together their own– Leadership Day by IGDA Finland will take place on September 30th, 2019 in Helsinki, is an international event about how to build companies, teams and working cultures to make better games! IGDA Finland is comprised of local hubs, each which support their local communities. They have 13 hubs across Finland (Helsinki, Turku, Tampere, Jyväskylä, Kotka, Satakunta, Vaasa, Joensuu, Kajaani, Oulu, Rovaniemi, Kuopio and Lahti), and each hub organizing own monthly gatherings and other special events. In turn, these hubs together host over 150 events for IGDA Finland each year!

Their Chapter Chair, Natasha Skult, wanted to express her thanks for everyone who makes their Chapter and their events possible, “Our Chapter is entirely run by hundreds of volunteers on their free time with the kind and generous support of our many sponsors and affiliates. One day we will figure out a proper way to thank you all!”
