The IGDA LocSIG (Localization Special Interest Group)
Founded in 2007, the IGDA Localization SIG aims to provide and share resources to anyone in the gaming industry looking for tips and best practices about how to handle game localization as smoothly as possible.
First created to explain and clarify what localization was, the LocSIG is quickly evolving into a lively hub of professionals and students dedicated to keep promoting best practices and updating them as the discipline evolves over time.
For localization professionals: here, you will be in touch with your peers from different game localization-related roles in the industry, and with whom you can discuss, collaborate and help each other.
For students: here, you can find professionals you can ask advice to guide you in your future career.
For game developers: here, you will find resources, best practices and tips about game localization, but also professionals who can answer your questions, advise you on cultural aspects or help you out localize your game.
If you’d like to find out more about the LocSIG’s endeavors in our industry and how you can get involved, or if you’d like to explore partnership or sponsorship opportunities, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us through the contact form below!
Focus and actions
Our first and most important focus is to gather actors of the game localization industry, produce useful resources, and enable constructive discussions between game developers, translators, project managers, localization producers, and students.
Here are some projects we are working on and organizing with the community:
- Organizing interactive AMAs and educational Webinars with industry professionals to dive deeper into industry related topics and work experiences
- Updating the Best Practice Guide content, but also its format
- Creating a link with other IGDA SIGs and associations to enable cross-discussions
- Having occasional meetings like the LocLunches
- Connecting students with localization professionals (mentoring)
- Being a central place to talk about localization and find useful advice for all professionals in the gaming industry

Support the LocSIG
The IGDA Localization SIG is hard at work when it comes to improving global and local standards in the game localization industry.
This includes continuous advocacy missions in promoting game localization best practices for professionals, game developers, and language service providers around the world, so they feel empowered in making conscious and ethical choices that ultimately benefit the whole game industry.
The IGDA Localization SIG provides curated professional online community hubs with a growing footprint, on- and offline gatherings, educational and practical resources, dedicated spaces for associations and unions, networking and outreach opportunities, and multiple volunteer task forces handling a number of versatile projects (article creation, video content, webinars, global surveys, and more).
Your donation will directly support the sustainable execution of all ongoing and future endeavors of the SIG. Thanks to your funds, necessary costs for everything mentioned above will be covered. They will pay for subscription services for resource libraries, community management tools, networking spaces, travel expenses, and info material, among many other things.
