Advisory: Game Industry Employment Scam
30 Sep 2020It has come to our attention that there is a scam currently targeting game developers with fake offers of employment to obtain bank account information.
In general, the tactic of this scam is:
- Contacts the game developer via Telegram or other messaging app wanting to discuss their portfolio
- Requests a discussion regarding employment at a studio (e.g. Gearbox, etc)
- The game developer then receives a fake offer of employment
- After accepting the offer of employment, the game developer is asked for sensitive banking information
Please ensure that you verify all communication before sending sensitive information. If you have concerns about the validity of messages, offers of employment, or other communications you receive, please contact us and we will help you verify the source.
