Developer Insight Survey

About the survey

The Developers Insights Survey is a new effort from IGDA to gather data insights to inform the association and the industry with unprecedented evidence on the challenges, motivations and teamwork dynamics of game creators with their diverse backgrounds. The participation is voluntary and the data will be anonymized, stored and processed independently by the Collaborative Technologies Lab in Utrecht University, including the supervision of an Ethical Review Board and a Data Privacy Office.

Why do we need this survey?

It is evident throughout the industry that we are facing paradigmatic moments in the game development sector, with changes in business models, financing and distribution, and productive reorganizations that have cost the jobs of thousands of talented individuals worldwide. In this context, support infrastructures such as associations, collectives, hubs, incubators, and accelerators are becoming increasingly relevant, while simultaneously lacking systematized data and evidence to inform priorities and define challenges segmented by profiles of different categories (from indies to AAA) and in the face of the geographical diversity of a globalized industry. In its more than 30 years of operation, igda has experienced the most diverse eras of the sector. Consolidating its leadership role in supporting game creators worldwide, the insights offered by this research should underpin a new cycle of support actions by IGDA and its partners throughout the industry.
