The session featured guest speakers including Sato Sho, Chair of the IGDA Incubation SIG; Zhenhua, IGDA Vice President; Hu Qianqian, industry researcher at the Shenzhen Game Industry Association; indie game producer Lindro; and Beizhen, IGDA Shenzhen board member and founder of Indie Pointer. Their talks covered the international indie game ecosystem, policy and regulation, production workflows, awards selection, and future trends.

Highlights:

“Games are a universal language.” Sato Sho traveled to Shenzhen to share vivid cases of games flourishing around the world as an international endeavor, and explained how uniting multiple international organizations can make games a true “universal language” that transcends culture and geography. Drawing on his experience at game expos and business summits, he described interacting with developers from many countries, calling a love of games itself a form of “diplomacy” that connects people heart-to-heart across borders.

IGDA Shenzhen Vice President Zhenhua presented the chapter’s growth over the past year — a expanding developer community, a steady stream of quality events, and an emerging localized support network — and laid out a vision of linking more international resources to bring local teams onto the global stage.

Finally, Beizhen shared the founding intent, selection criteria, and review process of Indie Pointer, an indie game selection and developer organization founded by grassroots developers and the community in late 2024, created to help overlooked games gain visibility. He described refining the review process for fairness and noted that evaluating a single game can take dozens of hours or more — the kind of dedication that gives more creators the courage to pursue their dreams.
