SUMMARY:SketchClub Online
DESCRIPTION:The IGDA Game Art SIG warmly invites you to SketchClub Online—a FREE (roughly) bi-weekly event kindly sponsored by SAE Institute Zurich and hosted by author and designer Chris Solarski with the purpose of exploring traditional and contemporary approaches to figure sketching and character design. Attendees are encouraged to participate in artistic challenges prescribed for each each session\, for which Chris is on hand to offer advice and support. Although the SketchClub can also be used as an informal online meet-up where participants are free to work on personal projects while discussing all character\, art-design and career-related topics. All skill levels are welcome\, from complete beginners to advanced\, and there are no restrictions on which media is used (i.e. pencil/paper\, Photoshop\, Procreate\, etc.). SketchClub has a “drop-in” format\, so participants needn’t attend every session and can arrive late/leave early—ideally with minimum disturbance to the group. \nThe SketchClub occurs roughly every second Friday\, and these are the confirmed dates so far (5:30 – 8:30 pm Central European Time). A Zoom link is published in the ‘upcoming_events’ channel of the IGDA Game Art SIG’s Discord server on the day of each event. We look forward to seeing you!

SUMMARY:Towards Anti-Racist Game Development in Europe
DESCRIPTION:About the workshop series\nMany game studios in Europe and around the world are increasingly invested in diversity and inclusion as part of their mission to create a positive working environment. \nHowever\, when it comes to anti-racism\, the active confrontation of racist structures and biases\, terms like “diversity” and “inclusion” are often not enough to tackle these problems. Even progressive game developers might struggle to: \n\n understand what racial bias is and how it may affect their work\nconstructively confront racism in their day-to-day creative practice\n\nTowards Anti-Racist Game Development in Europe is a free online workshop series which supports Europe-based professionals in the games industry to get started on their anti-racist journeys. These workshops will run on 28 March\, 28 April\, 19 May\, and 9 June\, 2022. All workshops are facilitated by members of the Anti-Racist Forum Finland and are free. The workshops will use safer space guidelines and are: \n\nParticipant led\nInteractive and activity-based\nProviding room for critical reflection\nFocused on concrete applications for game professionals\n\n\nWorkshop goals\n1. Raising anti-racist awareness \nThe workshop series provides personalised input to increase game developers’ awareness around racism\, racial bias and structural whiteness in the industry and beyond. The focus is specifically on a European context and caters to professionals who are just getting started on the subject. \n2. Providing tools for critical action \nThe workshop series is designed to provide game developers with custom-tailored tools and resources for a more critical work practice in the games industry. Throughout the series\, participants develop tools to be applied in their day-to-day studio setting. \nConditions for participation\nThe workshops are free of charge. All game developers in Europe are eligible to attend. Please note that: \n\nBy signing up\, you commit to attending all four workshops\n\n\nWorkshop 1: Approaching Racism in Play\nWorkshop 2: Race and Representation in Games\nWorkshop 3: Race and Power in Game Design\nWorkshop 4: Anti-Racist Strategies in Game Development\n\n\nWorkshop spots are limited and assigned on a first come\, first served basis\nWorkshops take place online and are held in English\n\nVisit the White-Play website for more details on how to register.

SUMMARY:Game Design Challenge
DESCRIPTION:CREATE YOUR OWN VIDEO GAME FOR A CHANCE TO WIN $500!\n\nThe “Games for All” Game Design Challenge empowers K-12 students to create their own video game through a collaborative\, creative and critical thinking journey. IGDA and Legends of Learning are proud to host the Spring ’22 Game Design Challenge! \nThe theme for the Spring ’22 Game Design Challenge is Games For All\nThe goal of this theme is for all participants to create a video game that cultivates inclusion among players in a collaborative way. Dell\, along with Legends of Learning and IGDA\, firmly believes in equity within our communities\, and that technology (including video games!) is a way to bridge the gaps between people of different genders\, cultures\, orientations\, socioeconomic statuses and abilities. \n  \n\nAbout this event\n\n\nThe “Games for All” Game Design Challenge launches on 4 April\, 2022. Epic Games invites all 6th through 12th grade participating teachers to a pre-launch presentation on Building Player to Creator Pathways with Interactive 3D. \nUsing sandbox games like Fortnite Creative in the classroom allows educators to meet students where they are and allows students to leverage their in-game skills to express knowledge with in-game graphics and tools. Fortnite Creative tools are simple and intuitive\, and use the same controls that millions of student-players already know. Many of these in-game controls are skills that are transferable to industry-standard tools such as Twinmotion and Unreal Engine. Participants will be introduced to interactive 3D and real-time technology across various industries\, including advertising\, game development\, architecture\, engineering\, automotive\, film\, and entertainment. Findings from a recent Burning Glass report on the growing demand for real-time 3D skills and how we prepare students and the future workforce for jobs in an immersive world. \nTeaching resources for Fortnite Creative\, Twinmotion\, and Unreal Engine will be shared. Participants will leave with an understanding of the suite of Epic Games’ 3D interactive resources and the potential they have to prepare students for real-world skills using industry-standard tools. \nAll sessions will be taking place on Twitch\, a live-streaming service used frequently in the gaming community. All sessions will take place using the same link (provided post-registration)\, but in order to engage in chat\, you will need to sign up for an account in advance. To learn more\, visit twitch.tv. \nThe recording will be available on YouTube on 30 March. \nSubmit your questions and Register today!
