DESCRIPTION:The IGDA Game Art SIG warmly invites you to SketchClub Online—a FREE (roughly) bi-weekly event kindly sponsored by SAE Institute Zurich and hosted by author and designer Chris Solarski with the purpose of exploring traditional and contemporary approaches to figure sketching and character design. Attendees are encouraged to participate in artistic challenges prescribed for each each session\, for which Chris is on hand to offer advice and support. Although the SketchClub can also be used as an informal online meet-up where participants are free to work on personal projects while discussing all character\, art-design and career-related topics. All skill levels are welcome\, from complete beginners to advanced\, and there are no restrictions on which media is used (i.e. pencil/paper\, Photoshop\, Procreate\, etc.). SketchClub has a “drop-in” format\, so participants needn’t attend every session and can arrive late/leave early—ideally with minimum disturbance to the group. \nThe SketchClub occurs roughly every second Friday\, and these are the confirmed dates so far (5:30 – 8:30 pm Central European Time). A Zoom link is published in the ‘upcoming_events’ channel of the IGDA Game Art SIG’s Discord server on the day of each event. We look forward to seeing you!

SUMMARY:Game Design & Disability at PlayBern
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 26th February 2022\, 2-5pm Central European Time (CET) \nSome 15% of the world’s population identifies as disabled. Discourse around disability usually approaches the topic from a medical standpoint\, as something to be treated and fixed. Consequently\, the Game Design & Disability workshop—conducted by designer and theorist Chris Solarski—aims to explore disability in games from an aesthetics standpoint with the understanding that we are all people\, only with different sensory perceptions. The 3-hour event wishes to raise awareness of these multiple realities by engaging in speculative design by reimagining our favourite games with avatars that have some form of disability. In doing so\, designers are encouraged to experience and embody new sensory forms to heighten empathy and extend the aesthetic scope of games by examining how a game’s design must change to accommodate various disabilities. \nThis is a free guided workshop during which Chris Solarski will outline sensory game design concepts and set pen-and-paper challenges for each participant. Minimum required materials include only grid paper (ideally) or A4 paper and a pen/pencil.
