SUMMARY:Virtual Workshop: Hybrid 2D and 3D Animation in Blender
DESCRIPTION:In this special online masterclass\, kindly sponsored by SAE Institute Zurich\, the iconic Dedouze will demonstrate advanced animation techniques in Blender that mix 2D and 3D approaches. Dedouze will guide participants through the development pipeline: from the initial storyboard\, to creating and compositing animated 2D and 3D objects in the same scene\, and finishing with special effects\, camera adjustments\, final editing and rendering. 2D animation will be tackled with Blenders sophisticated Greasepencil tool. This masterclass is for artists and designers working in diverse fields involving motion graphics\, including: animation\, illustration\, concept art\, web development\, advertising\, etc. \n  \nThis will be hosted on the IGDA Twitch Channel! \n  \nREQUIRED MATERIAL \nParticipants must be prepared with a PC or laptop with Blender pre-installed as well as a computer mouse. Blender is a free\, open-source 3D graphics and animation tool that can be downloaded here (where you’ll find Dedouze’s work is currently featured): https://www.blender.org/download/ \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nDedouze is a self-taught illustrator and animator based in Paris. He learned to draw with traditional mediums and in CGI during his free spare time\, while he worked as a web developer. Dedouze switched to a full-time freelance career as an illustrator in 2018. He has worked on storyboards and 2D/3D animation for French TV series\, music videos and French feature films. He discovered Blender’s potential while working on a fully animated opening scene for a TV series\, using the new Greasepencil tool in the beta version of Blender 2.8. Dedouze is passionate about developing personal art and innovative techniques as well as making a living from his creations.

Through this undertaking\, we aim to further bridge the gap between the local and international game industry.\nGEC will also host Games Showcase & Awards\, where local game developers will be able to showcase their games to professional mentors\, potential investors\, and publishers. Such a platform can help boost the developer’s finances and network\, and help them achieve their goal of bringing their product to the market. The best entries to the showcase will be selected and given awards based on their engagement\, immersiveness\, social impact\, and other criteria. \nIGDA members save 15% on passes to the conference.

We have an amazing space this year\, and it will accommodate all our assorted jammin’ needs. We will be in the Teachers College / Dyer Hall on the first floor\, room 160. \nIf this is your first game jam\, here are the deets: During the weekend\, you will have 48 hours to create a game based on a theme. No one will know the theme until the day of the event to keep the ideas fresh\, thunked up day-of. At the end of the weekend\, the goal is to have made a game\, but that’s just icing on the cake. We’re here to learn\, network with local devs\, and join in the grand worldwide celebration of the game making community\, with 600 other locations all over the world. \nNo specific skills are required to participate in the event. We’ll pop you on a team and make that magic happen. \nFriday: We will all meet up at 6pm on UC’s campus in the game jam room\, allowing a little time for people to show up. We will begin with a brief presentation of our sponsors and information IGDA and what to expect from the event. \n**Then we’ll unveil the theme at 7PM**. \nThe rest of the time on Friday will be networking with others and brainstorming ideas for games. \n**WE WILL DISPERSE AT MIDNIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT**\nEveryone should get at least one good nights sleep! \nSaturday: The real work begins. We will start bright and early (7AM) to maximize the weekend’s time in crafting our projects. We will be there all night Saturday. \nSunday: We’ll wrap up our projects and put them on display at 5pm. \nSome side notes to keep in mind during the weekend: \nThere will be NO cover charge to attend–we want everyone to feel welcome and able to join.\nThere will not be food provided at the event; however\, the Clifton area nearby is chock-full of tasty foods within easy walking distance.\nYou must be over the age of 18 to participate.\nThere is a parking garage next to the building with a daily rate of $10. Another cheaper garage is by all the food.
