Talk:Industry events

International Game Developers Association

[PJF] Question: How "important" do these events need to be to make this list? We have an upcoming event here in Toronto that might interest people. There's a fancy-pants-optional webpage and everything. This event will probably house about 40 people. The GDC, as an example of something that is important enough to be in this list, has attendance measured in the standard SI unit Giga-Nerds.

The text to add if it's appropriate:

[edit] Improving the Industry events pages

While some of the events are small, and I don't know much about them, several have good webpages or are huge events, and could use updating (like the Game Developers Conference page).

It'd be good to get some templates and standard information about the events up, with links and suchlike. Anyone mind if I start this? Since it hasn't been updated since January might be good to update.

Some possible ideas:

  • Regular yearly events get their own page so people know what to expect in a year
  • The front page holds a list of upcoming known date events
  • An archive page can hold all past events (such as the the Industry events page does ATM)

This would allow many more events to be added easily I'd hope, big and small.

Having each industry event page have a template or at least this information would make this more useful:

  • Main website link
  • What sub events and the schedule is, or a least a link to them
  • Event dates, location (address of place)
  • Sign up link / details (cutoff dates, costs)
  • Participation information
  • Who runs it (the company / person / SIG)

For events that have happened it could be expanded to:

  • Event writeup links / news from the event
  • Some events archive material from conferences, would be worth having links to it

I think them being subpages of this page would be a better idea then making them their own, main page too. (Major ones like the GDC could get redirected).

I doubt there is enough stuff going on to warrent this being any kind of news page (compared to the IGDA Events page that is), but it'd be more useful as an archive for people to know what has happened in the past.

Since I've determined Template:If won't work with this old version of mediawiki, I'll need to wait to impliment the required templates for any changes. Doing it all manually is not any fun. - Andrew 15:59, 23 Jun 2007 (EDT)
