[edit] Project Order

[edit] Project Pipeline

Project Pipeline is a project to develop a set of content packages for the new Chapter website. More details on the project will be added soon on a separate page. Unless stated differently, all the roles will presently involve building up this content on the Wiki pages in preparation for transition to our new website. We also want people who can work comfortably with Excel, and with updating content for websites.

Below is a list of the various roles we are looking to fill. Contact vancouver@igda.org to express interest.

[edit] Senior Editor (1)

A Senior Editor has already been assigned. Mike Corey is the Senior Editor on this project. He is also an IGDA Vancouver Chapter Coordinator, and Webmaster for the Chapter website.

[edit] Content Editor (1)

The Content Editor will review all incoming content on the Wiki pages, and ensure that certain standards are maintained throughout the content. Also, they will ensure that all the various contributors are communicating with each other to share information, contacts, and workflows.

[edit] Company Directory Researchers (2)

The Chapter plans to take a more active role in providing accurate, up-to-date information on ALL the game companies that do business in the Vancouver area. We will be working closely with New Media BC in building this resource. Editors for this resource will also be contributors and researchers. We currently are aware of most of the game companies in Vancouver, but we need to update this information, and add more details, as well as determining how to best serve and update this information. Also the researchers may work with company representatives from the various companies to update their company information. These contacts are very important to the Chapter, so this requires a tactful person. One researcher could choose to handle most of the contacts, while the other could concentrate on finding new companies via the Internet.

[edit] Job Listings Researchers (2)

The Chapter plans to feature free job listings on the new website. The majority of these job listings will not come from listing submissions, but from research by the volunteers. A simple example of what we mean by this can be found at:

http://emceedeus.eliteforce.com/canadianGameJobs.php

Our listings will provide more information that that, although the exact set of data points has not yet been determined.

Thus, we need volunteers to actively locate new jobs, and add them to our listings. These listings will serve as a resource for our many members who are entering the game industry, or transitioning between jobs in the game industry. These listings will focus exclusively on jobs in British Columbia, with a special emphasis on the Vancouver area. This is a non-issue, however, since most games in British Columbia are located in the GVRD.

We will also add jobs on request from our local companies, in case we are missing them. At a later date, we may feature sponsored listings, though a timetable for this feature has not been determined.

Another part of this role is developing a list of HR contacts for further developing and tailoring this resource for our local companies so that they can take an active role in building this resourcel.

[edit] News Editor (1)

The Chapter plans to include recent news of relevance to the Vancouver game development community on its new website. The News Editor will work closely with the Senior Editor to determine the scope of the news that we will list. The News Editor will locate, and edit, the news blurbs for our website. The News Editor should gather more news than we can possibly list on the website, and then decide what is important, and how it relates. The News Editor will also work closely with our partners, including New Media BC, and Vancouver SIGGRAPH Chapter, to ensure that their news is shared with our members. Lastly, the News Editor will ensure that all Chapter-related news is shared directly and promptly with our local members.

[edit] Event Editor (1)

The Chapter plans to include a calendar of events that shows large and small events of relevance to the Chapter over the next few months, up to a year. Events will be categorized based on size, if it concerns a specialty of the game industry, or if local or not local. The Event Editor acts like the News Editor in locating relevant events, and also sharing news of events that is supplied by the Chapter Coordinators, and by our Partners, New Media BC and Vancouver SIGGRAPH Chapter.

[edit] Funding Resource Researcher (1)

The Chapter plans to develop a unique funding resource that will point out possible sources of funding for early-stage and developed game companies. A page for this has already been set up at British Columbia Resources.

[edit] Article Writers (2)

The Chapter plans to develop articles about game companies, and individual developers. These articles will be geared towards the local community, with a secondary emphasis on being shared with the larger IGDA community. The core intent is to highlight our local expertise and spirit, and share this with the community, the IGDA, and with the world. The Article Writers will work closely with the Content Editor to determine what their projects will be. The Article Writers may also be our first choice for help with writing Meeting Reports from our Chapter meetings, but that is a separate role, and will be defined separately from this project.

[edit] FAQ Editor (1)

The Chapter plans to feature, and update a regular FAQ on our Chapter, and local issues for game developers. This will serve as an instant reference for Chapter members, and also for interested parties, such as developers learning about the IGDA, or our Chapter, and also the press. We have permission to re-print the FAQ featured on the New Media BC website here:

New Media BC Sector FAQs

While this fact does communicate a good deal of information about the game industry, it does not answer all the questions we have heard on a regular basis from our Chapter members, and is a little out-of-date when dealing with certain questions (such as how many companies, how many workers, etc.). The FAQ Editor will work to update this FAQ.
