Bret Dunham, a designer from Vicarious Visions is starting a chapter game project in 2006. The project is in the early planning phase right now. Read about the project and discuss in the following forum post.

Game development studios that are in Albany and the tri-city area go here.

1st Playable Productions is a company that focusses on developing games for kids on hand held game systems.

Agora Games is a company that focusses on stat tracking for games. They're technology was most recently featured in Metroid Prime: Hunters for the Nintendo DS. Agora Games was founded by the same people who started Agora Studios who also developed the Half-Life 2 Mod, Plan of Attack. Plan of Attack was finalist in the mod category for the 2006 Independent Game Festival.

Vicarious Visions is one of the oldest and largest video game developers in the area and is one of Activision's many studios. Vicarious Visions does development on all major hand held gaming and console systems.

Tube head is a small developer that specializes in educational pc software for children. Their primary product is Switch Zoo

Eden Studios is a table top roleplaying games company with many published titles include All Flesh Must Be Eaten, a zombie survival horror rpg, the City of Heroes table top rpg game and Buffy the Vampire Slayer Role Playing Game.

Talisman Studios is a developer of table top games, comic books and also intellectual property.

Platinum Arts is a new company started by the developers of the Award Winning cooperative mod for Doom 3, Last Man Standing. It was the winner in the Doom 3 mods category at the 2006 Indepent Game Festival.

Digital Thermite Games is a small wireless games company that developed Jeopardy! 2005 and Elevator Action both for Sony Pictures Mobile.

Locally developed mod projects.

This is a cooperative Doom 3 mod, lead by a designer who is in Schenectady NY.

This is a Half-Life 2 mod developed by the company Agora Studios. Mike DelPrete presented on this mod during the November 2005 Albany IGDA meeting.

This mod was developed by a team of RPI students for a capstone project.

[edit] Potential Meeting Locations

Places we have had IGDA meetings in the past or looked into having future meetings.

Open 7 days a week till 10. Has space for 50-60 people. No charge for the space. If we arrange an event there they will give us the entire space. Has a stage and two HD TV's for presentations and also a mic and amp. Serves food and drinks but no alcohol. We would need to select a limited menu of 3-6 items so that food could arrive in a timely manner. Not available Monday night (they have a board game night) or Wednesday night (they have an open mic night). Has wifi.

Right next to the RPI campus. Rather small, however.

  • RPI SBRL

RPI Social and Behavioral Research Lab in the Gurley Building. We've had a meeting here before in August 2005.

  • Albany Public Library

Near Lark Street. Has two rooms available. No food and you can't bring any into the meeting spaces.

  • Brown's Brewing Company

On River Street in Troy. Has an upstairs that could possibly be used as a meeting space. Has food and drink. No place to put a projector.

  • Holmes and Watson

In Troy on Broadway. Has an upstairs room for events with space for 50. Serves alcohol and food.

  • Flavours Cafe

On 4th street in Troy. Has sandwhiches, deserts, coffee and tea. Kind of small. Has a big screen tv but no projector.

  • The Daily Grind

Coffee shop in Troy. Has food (deserts and coffee) and a wall to project on. Not available Thursday nights because they have an open mic night then. Space available for 20-30 people.

  • The Pump House

Located in Albany. Has an upstairs meeting space that was used for the first IGDA meeting.
