[edit] 2008 Casual Games White Paper Kickoff
Want to get more involved with the casual game community? Wondering how you can help? Want to meet and collaborate with the best and brightest in the industry?
The White Paper has been one of the SIG's key initiatives since it was founded (as the Online Games SIG) in 2001, and it's all done with volunteer efforts. It's the casual game industry's best single information resource and it has helped out a ton of developers, investors, and others.
[edit] The 2008 White Paper
The white paper is due for a major update. I want to make it the best ever by making sure it:
- Reflects the rich and diverse product offerings and business models in the current casual game market
- Shows off the international nature of our industry
- Reflects the hard work that dedicated authors and editors have put in while also allowing contributions from everyone in the community
- Is available in a variety of convenient and usable forms for everyone who needs it.
[edit] What can you do?
Last year's white paper was 116 pages and this year's is going to get even bigger. It's going to take a lot of small contributions from many, many people to get it done. If you are excited about sharing your information and wisdom about casual games with the community at large, please consider doing the following:
- Share your ideas about how the white paper should be organized with the community either on the IGDA Casual Games mailing list or here on 2008 Table of Contents page so we can create a white paper that serves the community as a whole. UPDATE: The outline has been finalized.
- Volunteer to write, edit, or project manage any part of the white paper (which could mean as little as a few paragraphs or as much as several pages), by emailing me or the Casual Games mailing list. I would like to have a full slate of contributors signed up by December 1 with a goal of having the white paper drafted by March 3. Job Descriptions for writers and editors are posted here.
- Really step up to the plate and sign up as a Co-Editor or Assistant Editor on the project - helping me manage and steer the white paper as a whole. It will be a ton of fun, be a great service to the community, and put you in touch with many of the smartest and most knowledgeable people in our industry. You can email me on or off list to discuss this.
Thanks in advance for whatever you can do. The White Paper is an awesome and critical resource for our industry. It is only made possible by the volunteer efforts of the members of our community. Please take an active role in helping me create, shape, and manage what I hope will be the best IGDA Casual Games White Paper ever.
