December 15There have been some recent happenings on the violence front. The Freedom Forum Online reported that Arkansas legislators are taking a "stab" at defeating violent video games through mandatory ratings and the establishment of criminal offenses. On the flip side, the University of Toronto has proclaimed that violent media is not to blame for violent people. Jump into our Violence forum to discuss these topics and more. And, be sure to keep an eye on the activities of the IGDA's Violence Committee.

December 14Computer Games Online recently posted an interview with game developer veteran Steve Meretzky, who just so happens to be the coordinator of the IGDA's Boston Chapter (i.e., Post Mortem). It is a long, but good, read.

November 28The Washington Post recently reported that the FTC will not pursue legal charges against film, music and video game companies over marketing practices to minors. Stating that any such case would meet serious opposition from the First Amendment, and the fact that self-regulation is likely the best approach, the FTC's chairman advised the Senate Commerce Committee against further legal action.
November 21Game development students seeking resources and information can find both on our new Student Outreach page. The IGDA's Education Committee is working to provide real benefits to students, and we will continue to pass these along to you. We are especially pleased to announce the GDC 2001 Scholarship, which will be awarded to up to 25 promising students of game development.

November 15The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences is calling for nominations for its March 2001 award ceremony. Any game released between March 1 and December 31, 2000 is eligible. Nomination forms are available at the Academy's Web site and must be received by January 5, 2001.
November 14-We are excited to introduce a new membership package specifically for development studios. Our Studio Affiliation Program is designed as a valuable benefit for studio managers to present to their development teams. By joining the Affiliation Program, a game development studio heavily subsidizes its employees' individual IGDA membership fees - allowing them inexpensive access to individual IGDA member benefits.
