Max 9 and the "IGDA Guildford Pub Quiz v 1.0"...

The night began in typical Guildford fashion, with a bunch of smart, influential and humble games geeks gathering for a quiet drink in the evening. This was in complete contrast to the hive of activity present at the front of the room where the committee fiddled with PCs, laptops, and a PlayStation2 preparing for the evenings festivities. The evening proper began with a presentation of 3ds max 9. This was ably demonstrated by Autodesk & BlueGfx who, as always, had something visually arresting to show. Some of the material had already been shown at the London IGDA meeting previously, but it was new to most of those here, and represented a 1-0 win for BlueGfx! This was followed by a short break, and the pub quiz. Employing the power of locally-developed "Buzz!" and our master of ceremonies, Alex Trowers, seven teams competed together to determine who knew more about obscure game theme music from 1986, and other topics. At least; it determined who was prepared to admit it! It was a close call, with less than 100 points separating first and second place but there had to be a winner, and it happened to be one of the EA teams! The prizes were rather good (USB pen drives and the like, supplied by Autodesk) and something most were genuinely disappointed about not winning. (P.S. Dear quiz-master, my teams' buzzer didn't work- OK? :) At least I picked up an Autodesk T-shirt for my troubles. The socialising, networking, and general chit-chat continued until the pub closed, and everyone went home having been awarded an increase in karma hit points.
